We broke ground on June 14, 2012!  Very exciting after more than a year of thinking about building a small residence on rural property that has been in my mom's family since 1902!  We were off to a great start as it was a beautiful day to watch the excavator carve a precise hole in preparation for the foundation!

Below is a picture of the site before work began:

During the week of June 18, the foundation forms were built and concrete was poured.  It was great fun watching the concrete pumping truck unfold the tubing!  By the end of the week, perimeter drains were installed and sand delivered to make the pad for the concrete floor and patio yet to come.

The design is simple--a 20 feet by 24 feet box with a shed roof.  It will be one open room with a bathroom in one corner and a mini kitchen in another.  Total square feet will be 480.  There will be a view to the southeast and framed by French doors, side windows and transom windows above.  The floor plan is below.

If you are interested in following the construction, check back.  I will post an update at least every week.  If you have any questions or suggestions, leave a comment.  Next phase:  concrete floor with in-floor radiant heat.  Warm toes!
